A familiar name is only a starting point
An account can copy a display name, portrait or biography. Compare the exact username and return to the current profile page when a conversation moves to a different account. A message saying “this is my new account” is a claim to check.
A Verified handle label describes the directory’s source connection. It cannot prevent every impersonation or authenticate an account that contacts you elsewhere. The directory does not promise that a photograph proves identity.
Keep access codes to yourself
A chat partner does not need your login code, password or recovery information. Requests to forward codes, scan an unfamiliar login QR code or install unexpected software should interrupt the conversation rather than become another step in it.
Urgency is not verification. Take time to inspect the destination and the arrangement. If a payment request changes account or introduces new fees, ask for a clear explanation before taking another action.
Use the controls in the messenger
You can stop replying, block an account or use Telegram’s reporting tools. Do not publish someone’s private material while trying to resolve a dispute. Keep relevant records for your own reference without turning them into public accusations.
Return to the verified directory if you want another profile with a supported contact link. Reactions, ratings and a polished bio are not substitutes for reading the verification label and checking the destination.
